Pan Am Flight 103 Murderer Dead

If you live long enough, you don’t have to study history because you’ve lived it.  The bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland was an egregious act of terrorism that went largely unpunished.    No way Abdel Baset al-Megrahi acted alone but he was the only one brought to justice.   It spelled the end of Pan American Airlines.  But what is most vivid about that day is that 270 people on board needlessly lost heir lives and several on the ground as a result of crashing debris.  I particularly remember the 35 young people from Syracuse University studying abroad who were killed as they headed home for Christmas break.  I suppose it has stood out in my mind all these years later because I was a graduate school student at the time working on my thesis and I was miserable over the research and number of re-writes that I had to do.  I didn’t have the internet.  I actually had to spend nights in the library.  But I remember thinking these 35 students will never have the chance to be where I am and instantly my misery seemed petty.  I was indeed fortunate to be laboring through this endless mountain of paper.   Those students would never have that chance.  This monster got to spend the remaining 3 years of his life a free man.  Where is the justice in that?   To mark the death of this inhuman terrorist everyone should raise a glass, toast and celebrate that the world brightened slightly with his death.  Addition by subtraction.

  1. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers

    • Olli, Thank you for your comment. The reason I started my blog is because I felt no one was addressing topics that needed to be addressed. You never want to be disrepectful but you also shouldn’t hide the truth to avoid conflict. Curtis
