Violating The Non-Intereference Directive In Afghanistan

Fans of the Star Trek Franchise will recognize the non-interference directive as the most important rule of the Federation.  In fact, death was the greater option than interference with another culture.  The crew was never allowed to interfere or change in any way, the natural order of things.  Governments, countries, planets had the right to govern as they see fit.   It addressed imperialism; the idea that because one country has more power doesn’t mean it has the right to impose its will on the weaker power; sovereignty.  It was great forethought for the day.  All of it, wonderful in theory.   Then you look at the execution style murder of a woman accused of adultery.  Add to it, not allowing women to walk outside without a husband or being fully covered, being allowed to become educated or drive a car and all of that goes out the window.  In the case of Afghanistan, I see no problem with the interference of an outdated, antiquated system of tyranny.  The Taliban must be eliminated if there is ever to be peace in Afghanistan.  There is evidence they have made and continue to make inroads after being driven in to hiding.  The culture is so different and so undeveloped, it’s incredible actually.  But what is really at hand is another group of inferior men who only have the fear of death and torture for holding on to power.  The men are stupid, lazy, uneducated, and backwards.  Many are drug addicted, which is why we need to be involved.  It’s not about imposing one’s will as so many would accuse the US of doing.  It’s about doing what’s right and humane.  That’s what I have always believed this country is about and should be about.  The US of A is supposed to stand for something.  We can’t back out now which is why I agree with the President and Mrs Clinton declaring Afghanistan a major non-NATO ally.  Hamid Karzai, though imperfect and somewhat untrustworthy is the least of the evils at this point.  But no one should have any misconceptions.  Afghanistan is a backwards country in more ways than just the tyrannical Taliban but the journey of 1000 miles begins with the first steps.    They have already been taken.  Now we must continue to help them in order to not lose the small gains already accomplished.  In the long run it will benefit them, us and the world.
