Lost in the heated election in Wisconsin yesterday is the reason for having this election only two years after Governor Walker was elected. I for one am a little dumfounded by the whole recall election. I do not agree that this furthers the Democratic process by holding elected officials accountable. There are enough checks and balances to ensure that any elected official will have to answer to his constituency eventually. In 2012 Governor Walker was elected by 52% of the voters who cast ballots in Wisconsin. However, due to the fact that he was attempting to enact unpopular, albeit prudent legislation, his opponents set the recall in to motion. The powerful unions were able to gather enough signatures to enact a recall only for Governor Walker to win with 56% of the vote. If 25% of the voters who voted for Governor Walker were needed for the recall, how could he have won 4% more of the vote? This is a flawed process that should be eliminated. It’s like the crybaby wanting a do over because he didn’t win. In fact, that’s exactly what this is. So what Wisconsin did is waste money on an election to once again elect Governor Walker. He would have had to answer for his policies in 2014. This process was a great waste of time.
