I’ll Have Another Scratched From the Belmont Stakes

The scratching of I’ll Have Another is shocking news.  He had a real shot and almost as sad as his not being in the race are the questions that will forever go unanswered.  What a disappointment.  Apparently he has a problem in his left hind leg which appears not to be too serious but obviously you can’t take a chance on him being seriously injured running such a marathon.  Tomorrow’s race, while still exciting has lost much of its anticipation.  That’s one of the reasons there have only been a dozen triple crown winners.  It’s difficult enough running three pressure packed races in six weeks not to mention the fact that the Belmont jumps the distance to 12 furlongs from 9.5 furlongs.  That would be no different form Hussain Bolt running the 100m and then the 1500m two weeks later.  It’s just so difficult to do.  Hopefully I’ll Have Another is not seriously injured and will compete again before being put out to stud.
