Iconic music producer Quincy Jones is suing the estate of Michael Jackson for $10 million dollars. The lawsuit claims that Michael Jackson and Sony Entertainment re-edited some of Jackson’s songs in order to deprive him of royalty fees. It also states the producer’s contracts called for him to have the first opportunity to re-edit or alter the songs, in part to protect his reputation. In response to the lawsuit, a spokesman for Jackson’s estate released the following statement, “To the best of its knowledge, Mr Jones has been appropriately compensated over approximately 35 years for his work with Michael.”
While Quincy Jones would still have been a wealthy, famous man without Jackson, (he already was long before Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad) which he produced. But Jackson and his talent, took Jones to a place he would never have been without him. He should be forever grateful and let Jackson rest in peace. There are certainly those who would dispute that and they would be entitled but Jackson in the 70s and 80s was just about the most famous man on earth and he took Jones along for the ride. While it’s easy to understand that no one wants to be taken advantage of, Jones is, or should be, a very wealthy man in his own right. Are we supposed to feel badly for Quincy Jones? There’s an old saying that there’s no honesty among thieves. Well add to that, there are no friends when it comes to money.
