Two Deputies were shot in Lakeside California after confronting a suspect about an allegation of child pornography. It was actually more than an allegation. The mother of the two female child victims saw photos of her daughters engaged in sexual acts with the accused, her boyfriend, on his phone, and went to the police. The man was apparently going to sell the photos to an online child pornography website for $50,000 and was going to use the money to support them since he was out of work for a year. When the deputies went to confront the man and entered the apartment, he shot them and turned the gun on himself. Hopefully the two deputies will survive and fully recover. The accused will hopefully leave this world a little better place because of his demise. I have been vocal in the past regarding child porn and I stand by those opinions. Anyone engaged in, distributing of, or viewing child pornography, should be charged with a felony, carrying a penalty up to and including capital punishment. Abusing a child sexually is equivalent to murder or rape and should be dealt with in that fashion. There should be no leniency. We need to protect our children from evil predators. It’s about time we cease being more concerned about the rights of the accused than the rights of the victims. Child molesters, pornographers can not be cured. They are sick beyond anyone’s ability to help them. The death penalty is not about deterrence in these cases. It’s about ensuring that someone who is completely anti-social is never allowed to again commit such a crime. Now that this particular individual has shot two Deputies, in addition to the child pornography, let the sentence fit the crime.
