A while back I wrote an article about Jesse Jackson Jr, suggesting he resign. While we don’t want to penalize anyone for mental illness, he was clearly not representing his constituents in his long absence. Now, after easily winning his bid for re-election, Jackson faces a serious charge of corruption. Last week the Chicago Sun Times reported, “Jackson was under investigation for allegedly misusing campaign funds to decorate his home and to buy a $40,000 Rolex watch for a female friend.” If these charges are substantiated, Jackson would undoubtedly face jail time. He has apparently hired former US attorney Dan Webb, who represents defendants in high-profile cases. CBS 2 and Fox News Chicago both reported that Webb was working on a plea deal that would force Jackson Jr to resign his seat in Congress and serve jail time. Jackson is not unfamiliar with scandal as he was the subject of a House ethics committee probe in 2008, over an alleged bribe offered by a Jackson supporter in 2008 to then Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. The former Governor is serving a fourteen year prison sentence on “17 counts of wire fraud, attempted extortion, soliciting bribes, conspiracy to commit extortion and conspiracy to solicit and accept bribes.” One question that must be asked, is why after so much baggage, would his constituents continue to elect him? I suppose there are those who would say he’s being unfairly targeted but clearly there is much more in play than just a government witch hunt. One thing can not be disputed, Chicago has been historically, one of the most corrupt cities in the United States. A piece of advice to the rest of the country. If you want your politicians to be incorruptible, elect a billionaire, just like our Mayor Bloomberg.
Greetings from Los angeles! I’m bored to death at work so I decided to check out your blog on my iphone during lunch break. I love the info you present here and can’t wait to take a look when I get home. I’m amazed at how quick your blog loaded on my mobile .. I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .. Anyhow, wonderful blog!
Thank you so much for your comments. They are really appreciated. I was recently in LA and always enjoy my time on the left coast. I try to be honest and present the truth about every issue I write about. People on the left and right can’t see the center which is what’s been the downfall of our political process. Thanks again for visiting. Cheers!
