Porn Star Cameron Bay, (if that’s her real name) spoke at a Hollywood news conference regarding an incident that occurred while filming a porn movie.  A male actor was cut on his penis but continued filming without a condom, a variation on the show must go on I suppose.  On July 27 she tested negative for HIV, on August 21, she tested positive.  Bay said, “I’m not here to push anything down anybody’s throat, I’m not here to fight anybody’s fight.  I’m just here to share my story and to get knowledge out there to people and try to prevent anything like this happening to anyone else.”  What she failed to say was that if she wasn’t a porn star, having sex with any man she’s told to have sex with, her risk of infection would have been reduced dramatically.  The news conference was convened by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which has pushed for legislation to require condom use on all adult film sets.

The reason for discussing this story is not so much to address a tragic story of a woman who contracted AIDS as a result of being a porn star but rather to point out her stupidity.  There is always a risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease including AIDS, for any man or women participating in unprotected sex.  But to have a news conference about something as obvious as the health risks when engaging in unprotected sex for a living with multiple partners, is unbelievable.  One would assume these “actors”, would be far more careful than average people.  Instead, Ms. Bay should have addressed why a woman would choose to have sex for a living, whether porn star or prostitute.

And finally, let’s agree to stop referring to porn actors and actresses as actors and actresses.  They are people who get paid to do the same thing that billions of people all over the globe due for pleasure and reproduction. Claiming to be a talented porn actor is like saying you’re a Nerf basketball superstar.  Achieving an erection on camera may be considered a skill by those not intelligent enough to earn a living in some other way but it’s really nothing to brag about.  Everyone has sex and anyone can do what they do, anyone! These people are simply the ones who are disturbed enough to do it for a living.
