Judo Throw # 20 – Kibisu-gaeshi – Heel Trip

Start in kumi kata position. On the right side, tori steps back with left foot as uki advances with right foot.  Tori then drops his hips and pulls straight down on uki’s right sleeve or arm if not wearing a gi.  At the same time, tori reaps uki’s right foot with his right hand from behind.  This is a timing throw and the reap with the hand and pulling down on the sleeve must happen simultaneously and before uki can shift his weight to his left foot and lift his right, thereby avoiding the throw.   The reap is not unlike Kouchi Gari where it must occur prior to uki planting his foot.
