NY Times Reports White House And Iran To Hold Nuclear Talks

The New York Times is reporting the US and Iran have agreed to hold one-on-one talks over Iran’s nuclear program, a story the White House vehemently denies.  According to the article, the Iranians have insisted that such talks are held off “until after the election.  They want to know with whom they will be negotiating”.  The New York Times story continues, “news of the agreement — a result of intense, secret exchanges between American and Iranian officials date almost to the beginning of President Obama’s term”.  In response to the New York Times article, the White House released a statement saying, “it’s not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections”.  If confirmed, this story has the potential to blow up in the President’s face.  With the final Presidential debate taking place tomorrow night, focussing on foreign policy, Mitt Romney will obviously call the President on to carpet for this and will force the President to play defense no matter how hard he tries to be on the offensive.  This is a President who has been apologizing to governments around the world for past US foreign policy decisions.  He’s a man who bowed to the Saudi King.  He believed when he took office that he would be able to show the North Korean’s the error of their ways.  This is not a liberal or conservative issue, the President of the United States bows to no one.  The President’s greatest strength is negotiating from a position of strength, something he has failed to learn in his almost four years in office.  Killing Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives using drones is not negotiating from strength, it’s just killing.  The number of innocent people killed in those attacks hasn’t exactly help our image.  If this story turns out to be true, it’s a terrible miscalculation on the part of this administration and there should be major repercussions.  What is the point of sanctions if you are willing to secretly discuss negotiations.  Why would Iran take him seriously?  In this forum, Obama is a little boy in a man’s world.  If you understand the mentality of those living in the Middle East whether Iranians, Palestinians or Israeli’s, they only understand strength as a negotiating position.  The President is even more naive than I have previously stated if he really believes he can negotiate away Iran’s nuclear ambitions.  It’s also one more very crucial reason this President must be voted out of office on November 6th.
