Jesse Jackson Jr Resigns

Jessie Jackson Jr has resigned his house seat to spend time, “restoring my health”.  The House Ethics Committee has been investigating allegations he offered to raise money for then Governor Rod Blagojevich in exchange for his Senate seat.  Throughout the investigation, Jackson Jr has maintained his innocence, “I did nothing illegal, unethical or inappropriate in that pursuit, and I believe that is what the Ethics Committee will conclude at the end of this process.”  In his statement of resignation Jackson Jr said, “The constituents of the Second District deserve a full-time legislator in Washington, something I cannot be for the foreseeable future,”  He continued,  “My health issues and treatment regimen has been incompatible with service in the House of Representatives. Therefore, it is with great regret that I hereby resign as a member of the United States House of Representatives, effective today, in order to focus on restoring my health.” Jackson Jr should have resigned months prior to his re-election, instead of forcing an election for his now vacated seat.  However, it’s been suggested Jackson wanted to wait until after the election so his seat would have to be voted on, as opposed to having someone appointed by the power brokers in the party.  So concludes a nine term, eighteen year, Congressional Career.  Should he be vindicated of any wrongdoing and should he be able to put his personal issues to rest, a political comeback would not be unexpected.
